Zářecká Lhota: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History

The old part of Zářecká Lhota has preserved its original medieval settlement structure almost completely intact, with a circular village green arranged radially. The first written references to Zářecká Lhota date back to the 13th century; a historical record from 1397 lists the settlement under the name “Lhota Kunšova”.

On the Hrádníky spur in the cadastral area of Zářecká Lhota, a castle built of wood, stone and clay was constructed within the area of a prehistoric hillfort at the end of the 13th or beginning of the 14th century. It existed for a relatively short time and was destroyed by a sudden fire. The Hrádníky archaeological site is a Late Bronze Age hillfort that was also used in the Early Middle Ages. The remains include a ditch approximately 80 metres long, preserved ramparts in the more accessible areas, and traces of terraced structures and a medieval fortification. Foundations on the northwestern edge belong to a medieval stronghold.

Culture

The chapel built in 1862 stands in the centre of Zářecká Lhota. Next to it is a reconciliation cross erected in 1893 using funds provided by the inhabitants. The chapel’s original bell was first rung in 1866 and was taken away by the Germans during the Second World War; today, a new electrically operated bell rings in the village.

Nature and Trails

The Tichá Orlice forms the northwestern boundary of the cadastral area of Zářecká Lhota. A pond revitalised with funding from the SFŽP lies on the edge of Zářecká Lhota. A cycle path created with funding from the SFDI leads from Choceň to Zářecká Lhota.

Fossils

There are two small quarries on the road to Zářecká Lhota, where quarry workers found the skeletal remains of a pterosaur in 1881. The rare fossils found near Zářecká Lhota, belonging to the only known Czech pterosaur, are kept at the National Museum in Prague.
