Svojšice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Svojšice is situated in a wooded landscape at the foot of the Železné hory mountains. The imposing Gothic Svojšice Fortress was founded in 1365 by Mikšík ze Svojšic.

History and Culture

Emperor Ferdinand II’s army burned the fortress down in 1634; it was subsequently uninhabited and gradually fell into disrepair. In 1706, it was described as a ruin. The protected area of the former fortress includes the remains of the palace, a fragment of the tower, cellars, and the enclosed plots of the site.

Julie Havlíčková, the wife of Karel Havlíček Borovský, was born in Svojšice in 1826 as Julie Sýkorová. A memorial plaque is located on her birthplace, today’s Municipal Office No. 1.

Hiking and Cycling

A red-marked hiking trail leads to the Gothic ruins of Svojšice Fortress and continues to Horní Raškovice. Cycle Route 4128 also passes through Svojšice and forms part of a 27.5 km circular route from Heřmanův Městec to Choltice.

Landscape and Regional Surroundings

Krkanka and Bučina are mountains in the surroundings of Svojšice. The nearby area includes the hills “Chrast [Jeníkovice u Choltic]” and “(Na Hranicích) [Jeníkovice u Choltic]”. In the wider regional area lies Kačina Chateau; the Church of Saint George is also located nearby.

Events

The Svojšice Cultural Area has a capacity of approximately 10,000 people. At the Svojšický Podzim event on 12 September 2026, refreshments will be available at the venue; camping is free on the festival grounds.
