Ráby: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Ráby combines the world of gingerbread with the castle and natural landscape around Kunětická hora. The Muzeum perníku includes a fairy-tale forest where visitors can playfully relive Jeníček and Mařenka’s journey to the gingerbread cottage. At the Perníkářská dílna Ježibaby, visitors can watch traditional old Bohemian gingerbread being made using carved wooden moulds.

Culture and History

At Kunětická hora Castle, a tour leads through the historic castle palace and to a lookout tower. There is also an exhibition about the architect Dušan Jurkovič, who played a major role in restoring the castle. Between 1491 and 1548, the castle was extensively rebuilt under Vilém and his sons Vojtěch and Jan.

The Church of Svatý Jiří is located in the surroundings of Ráby.

Landscape and Nature

The grounds of Kunětická hora Castle offer year-round opportunities for walks through orchards and along forest paths around the hill. The hills “(Kopaninské) [Staré Hradiště]”, Kunětická hora and “(Na Podbahní) [Pardubice-Ohrazenice]” are located in the immediate surroundings of Ráby. The hill “(Chobot) [Dašice-Zminný]” is located in the surroundings of Ráby.

The Kunětická hora Nature Monument is home to saproxylic insects, particularly the hermit beetle, as well as mammals and birds associated with old hollow trees. It also contains specially protected animal and plant species in rocky habitats, dry grasslands and old orchards.

Getting Around

Regular buses from Hradec Králové and Pardubice stop at the “Ráby – Perníková chaloupka” stop directly by the Muzeum perníku. Cycle Route 4124 runs from Pardubice Cihelna via Staré Hradiště, Brozany, Ráby and Kunětická hora towards Opatovice nad Labem. A green-marked hiking trail to Kunětická hora leads through Ráby.
