Nature around the Sopřečský rybník pond

The Sopřečský rybník pond is located about 1 km southeast of Sopřeč in the Pardubice District and covers 86 ha. It was created in the 16th century as part of the Pernštejn pond system. Today, the pond is primarily considered an ornithological site with waterfowl and an important resting place for migrating geese and ducks.

Paths between forest and water

The yellow-marked Výrovský Circuit is a 6.5 km walking trail through forests between Břehy near Přelouč, Vlčí Habřina and Sopřeč. A 500 m branch leads from this circular route to the Sopřečský rybník pond.

Cycle route 4272 runs from Výrov via Sopřeč to Chýšť and is 11 km long. From Výrov, it follows a forest track across the dam of the Sopřečský rybník pond, where rare waterfowl can be found.

The surrounding landscape

The immediate surroundings of Sopřeč include Sušina Hill, Nadýmač Hill (Břehy) and Zástava Hill (Vápno u Přelouče). Sušina is also the name of a forest west of Sopřeč and south of Vápno.

The wider regional surroundings of Sopřeč include Kamenec Mountain.

Culture and local history

A statue of Saint Wenceslas stands at the southern end of Sopřeč. It was consecrated in 1876 and created by the sculptor Antonín Okrouhlický. The Church of Svatý Jiří is also located in the vicinity of Sopřeč; in the wider regional surroundings, you will find Zámek Kačina Castle.

The memorial book of the mayor of Sopřeč contains entries from 1773 through the beginning of the 20th century.
