Chvaletice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Chvaletice lies in the northwestern foothills of the Železné hory National Geopark. The ridge of the Železné hory ends here; beyond the Labe, the Východočeská tabule extends. The local rocks bear witness to two seas of different ages, volcanic activity, mountain-building processes (folding), and a significant accumulation of ores.

Getting around

A cycle path reaches Chvaletice via an underpass at the railway station and continues from there along the river to Týnec nad Labem. MAGEO is a 29 km geological cycle path with 13 information boards; its stops include Chvaletická vyhlídka and Chvaletice railway station. In Chvaletice, walks are possible along the banks of the Labe.

Chvaletická vyhlídka offers a broad view over the landscape; in good visibility, Sněžka can also be seen clearly. On the western edge of old Chvaletice, in Hornická čtvrť, two information boards stand on the road from Chvaletice to Horušice, offering a wide view of the Chvaletice geological locality.

History and culture

Mining destroyed large parts of the original settlement of Chvaletice; Hornická Čtvrť was built for the miners. The Neo-Renaissance Protestant church in Hornická Čtvrť was built and consecrated in 1882 and is protected as a cultural monument. On a meadow below the Protestant church stands a Jan Hus monument commemorating the 500th anniversary of the execution of Jan Hus.

The former Masaryk primary school in Hornická Čtvrť was completed in 1930 according to a design by the architect Řepa and is protected as an immovable cultural monument.

Access

Access to the Chvaletice geological locality is only possible with special permission, as it includes a military area, a quarry, and private properties.
