Barchov is situated on the left bank of the Podolka stream. Dense willows growing along the stream formerly gave the village the nickname “Barchov Vrbový.”
History and Culture
Veselí is now part of the municipality of Barchov and was formerly a fortress and a manorial farmstead. The former fortress in Veselí lost its characteristic appearance after a storm in 1929, when its original roof was replaced with a flat concrete roof. Written records from the late 15th century mention a miller in Barchov.
The building of the former fortress in Veselí, house number 25, is privately owned. There is a cross next to the small bell tower in Barchov. Barchov also has a municipal library dating from 1909. The Church of Saint George is located in the vicinity of Barchov.
Landscape and Trails
In a large part of the built-up area, there are pavements along Class III road 32226 and the local roads connected to Class I road I/2.
The hill Na Hranicích [Jeníkovice u Choltic] is located in the immediate vicinity of Barchov, as is Bílý kopec hill [Valy nad Labem]. In the wider regional surroundings of Barchov are Bučina Mountain, Krkanka Mountain, and Kačina Chateau.
