Semín can be explored through its architectural and technological history: the dominant building of the manor house in Semín is the birthplace of the architect Josef Gočár, who was born on 13 March 1880. In 1691, a brewery was added to the original building of the Semín manor house; the building was remodeled and expanded in the Baroque style at that time.

Culture and history

Further historical traces can be found in the bell tower of Semín, which houses two historic bells cast in 1542 and 1606. The church in Semín was remodeled in the Baroque style in the second half of the 17th century and has retained this appearance to the present day.

A Hvozdový valach from the first half of the 19th century has been preserved on the site of the former castle brewery; it is one of the oldest known examples of its kind in the Czech Republic. The Hvozdový valach in Semín operates entirely without electrical energy and has been preserved, including its calorifers and hot-air ducts. The Opatovický Canal is also an impressive technical monument associated with Semín.

Landscape

At the western edge of Semín is the Semínský Aqueduct, a grade-separated crossing of the Opatovický Canal and the Sopřečský Stream. The way to the Semínský Aqueduct is signposted near the main road.

The Semínský přesyp is home to an extremely rare occurrence of sand milk-vetch (Astragalus arenarius) throughout the Czech Republic. The Semínský přesyp also features open grasslands of continental dunes with hair grass and bentgrass.
