Opatovice Nad Labem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Opatovický Canal is a 34.42 km-long, artificially constructed canal that is still in operation today. The Pernštejns built it at the beginning of the 16th century; it once served to supply a system of 230 fishponds.

Water Landscapes and Nature

The Elbe has shaped the landscape around Opatovice nad Labem through its changing river courses, meanders, lakes, ponds, wetlands, and alluvial deposits. Along the river, an almost untouched strip of nature encompasses the protected Hrozná Nature Area.

Culture and History

Morávkův Water Mill is a technical monument in the immediate vicinity of the site of the former Benedictine monastery. The former Benedictine Opatovický klášter monastery was located in the northeastern part of Opatovice nad Labem and fell into decline after its destruction by the Hussites in 1421.

The Church of St. Lawrence is a particularly valuable Gothic village church complex with a significant Baroque building phase. Its unusual tower has a battlemented walkway and a masonry cupola. Mass is celebrated in the church every Sunday at 8:00 a.m. A bell tower next to the Zatáčka restaurant in Opatovice nad Labem belongs to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.

Routes and Traditional Events

Marked hiking and cycling routes pass through Opatovice nad Labem. A tradition of its own is the Tour de Opatovice nad Labem, a ride on historic bicycles. In Pohřebačka, a district of Opatovice nad Labem, the Pohřebačský Jarmark is also held annually on September 28, St. Wenceslas Day—a traditional fair of folk crafts.
