Mokošín: Holiday apartments and houses

MAGEO, a 29-kilometre geological educational cycling trail in the Železné hory National Geopark, begins at Přelouč railway station and passes through Mokošín, with one of its thirteen information-board stations located there.

Landscape

The hills of Křemen [Mokošín] and Žebráky [Přelouč] are located in the vicinity of Mokošín. The summit of Křemen is 258 metres above sea level. Křemen offers a view of Přelouč; in good visibility, the view extends as far as the Krkonoše Mountains. Krkanka is a mountain in the vicinity of Mokošín, while Bučina is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Mokošín.

Culture and history

The village is home to the “Boží muka” wayside shrine, a stone cross on a pedestal with a Madonna. In the western part of Mokošín stands a cross enclosed by a larger metal fence. Beneath the cross in Mokošín is a depiction of the Lamb of God.

The statue of Mokoš was carved in 2007 from a linden tree described as “Slavic”, based on a design by woodcarver Miroslav Landovský. People bring fruit as offerings and light candles at the Mokoš statue.

The Church of Svatý Jiří is located in the vicinity of Mokošín. In the wider regional surroundings of Mokošín lies Zámek Kačina, a chateau.
