Staré Město: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Staré Město combines impressive sacred buildings, archaeological traces and protected nature with regional events and a distinctive culinary tradition. Particularly prominent is the Church of Saint Catherine, Virgin and Martyr: it forms a fully preserved, enclosed ensemble of a rural stone parish church.

Culture and History

The originally Late Gothic Church of Saint Catherine, dating from the 13th century, was remodelled in the Late Baroque style at the end of the 18th century. Its main altar features a Rococo painting of Saint Catherine by Judas Thaddaeus Supper from the second half of the 18th century. The Calvary ensemble comprises a central cross and two lateral statues of saints, Saint John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary.

Further historical details complete the character of the village: the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is dated 15 May 1716 and attributed to Anton Stelzl. The Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is built of stone, has a smooth, semicircular form and is topped by a wavy gable field. The Chapel of the Holy Cross near the Church of Saint Catherine in Staré Město is designated an immovable cultural monument.

Nature and Archaeological Traces

Třebovské hradisko is a pentagonal fortified hilltop settlement with archaeological traces. A ditch and rampart surround the site. Hradisko is also a protected natural monument with oak-hornbeam and beech stands, as well as numerous rare and protected plant species.

Cycling Route and Events

Cycling Route 4062 runs through Staré Město and continues via Rychnov na Moravě to Mladějov na Moravě. The Jarní pochod za zdravím is also one of the documented activities in the village: by 2022, the march had reached its 39th edition, with both the start and finish at the Sokolovna.

Village Life and Regional Cuisine

The municipality of Staré Město began organising Staroměstské veselí in 2020. At the Zvěřinové hody, game dishes and grilled dishes are served in a hunting lodge.
