Culture

The protected Church of St. Barbara in Banín is a Gothic structure made of rough granite, first mentioned in 1350. The church tower was built in 1559. The complex of St. Barbara’s Church is surrounded by a cemetery wall; on the eastern side, a bell tower is integrated into the wall and also serves as a gate.

The rural farm complex in Banín is a closed farmstead with a small courtyard as well as residential and farm buildings. It is accessed through a gate and a pedestrian entrance.

The churches of Kaple Panny Marie, Kaple Božského srdce, Kaple Panny Marie Lurdské, and Kaple sv. Anny are located in the wider regional surroundings of Banín.

History

In 1293, King Wenceslas donated Banín and Německá Bělá, as part of the Svojanov crown estate, to Zbraslav Monastery. Historically, Banín was inhabited predominantly by German-speaking residents; after the founding of Czechoslovakia, the village had a German school and a Czech minority school.

At the place now known as “na Babičce,” a settlement disappeared during or shortly after the Thirty Years’ War. According to local tradition, a sow dug up a bell there that allegedly came from the tower of the church of the vanished settlement. During the Second World War, the border between the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and the German Reich ran near Banín in the direction of Rohozná.
