Srnojedy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Srnojedy on the Elbe combines cycling connections, historic traces, and a waterworks complex with several technically different components. On one side, the Elbe forms the cadastral boundary of the village. The Srnojedy waterworks consist of a movable weir, a small hydropower plant, a lock chamber, and a boat passage.

Water

The original weir at Srnojedy was built between 1932 and 1942. It maintains the water level in the impoundment area at 212.99 m above sea level, thereby creating suitable conditions for inland navigation.

The technical infrastructure also includes the fish pass at the Srnojedy waterworks. It is located in the left dividing wall of the lock chamber, is 1.2 m wide and 41.1 m long, corresponds to the type of technical chamber fish pass, and enables fish migration.

The excursion boat Arnošt z Pardubic also travels along the Elbe to Srnojedy.

Cycling and Paths

The Svítkov–Srnojedy cycle path connects at the road bridge over the Elbe, the Rosický most. A 0.844 km-long section belongs to this cycle path. The Pardubická Labská Cyklostezka now runs from Svítkov to the center of Srnojedy.

Cycling excursions along the Elbe are possible in the surroundings of Srnojedy. The area is also suitable for walks. Public transport runs through Srnojedy on route 15.

History

Srnojedy first appears in the surviving written historical sources in 1410. The mention concerns the first owner, the landed nobleman Jan ze Srnojed, known as Tluch.

There was a hereditary ferry service called Košlan near the mill.
