Chroustovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The townscape of Chroustovice includes the château complex on both banks of the Novohradka River, the formal garden with its avenues of lime trees, and the monumental channel of the Novohradka.

Culture and History

The present-day Church of Saint James the Greater in Chroustovice was built in 1744 after the previous church had been demolished. The church’s pewter baptismal font bears the year 1510.

In Chroustovice Square, in the small park to the left of the church, there is a column with a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1804. In the lower part of the square, in front of the municipal office, stands an iron cross with Christ, erected in 1836.

Historical monuments can also be found along the roads: The statue of the Holy Trinity on the road to Luže was created in 1891 by the local sculptor Dušánek, based on a model from the sculpture school in Hořice. On the road via Březovice to Chrudim, a stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1729 stands between four mature lime trees.

A signpost in Chroustovice is made of local sandstone and includes an inserted ceramic element. The stone signpost stands on the left at the junction toward Městec and Uhersko, on the edge of a large lawn belonging to the local school.

Gardens and River Landscape

The Chroustovice château garden forms the centre of a Baroque-designed landscape. It is part of a unique historic late-Baroque green complex influenced by the designs of André Le Nôtre and featuring a pronounced illusionistic design. In the formal garden, avenues of lime trees line the monumental channel of the Novohradka.

The section of the Novohradka enclosing Chroustovice features a natural-looking riverbed with meanders, sand and gravel banks, pools, and remnants of floodplain vegetation.

Dates and Access

Chroustovice Château is normally not open to the public. An Open Gardens Day is planned at Chroustovice Château for 20 September 2026, with guided tours starting at 13:00 and 15:00.
