Hamry U Hlinska: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Landscape

Above the Hamerská Reservoir, the Chrudimka is a partially shaded, 5-metre-wide stream in the cadastral area of Hamry u Hlinska. The Žákova hora and Devět Skal mountains are located in the vicinity of Hamry. Mount Světka lies in the wider regional surroundings of Hamry, while the Přední Hradiště [Studnice] hill, a viewpoint, is located in the immediate vicinity of Hamry.

Culture and History

Among the town’s designated cultural landmarks is the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, also known as Svatojánské lázně. It is an immovable cultural monument in Hamry. In addition, several folk buildings typical of the local foothill landscape have been preserved in Hamry, including log cabin No. 25 with a decorated lattice gable.

The history of working with water and in the hammer mill has also been passed down: In Hamry and in Hamřík, located farther north, iron ore was processed in the local hammer mill in the 15th and 16th centuries. Work in the Hamry iron forge continued until the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, three water mills were in operation in Hamry.

Traditional Customs

A characteristic part of local customs is the so-called Prohánění kobyly. It has been preserved only in Hamry and is considered a unique part of the Masopust processions in the Hlinecko region. It can be observed in Hamry on the afternoon before the day of the masked procession: Young men dressed as horses and other masks pass by all the houses in the municipality, announcing the events of the following day.

The Masopust procession of the municipality of Hamry has been passed down from time immemorial and preserves its old Bohemian character. The Masopust procession in Hamry u Hlinska has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2010. The procession can only be experienced in its original area, the municipality where it takes place.

The Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky educational trail passes through Hamry; on the route from Čachnov, Hamry is located at kilometre 14.5. There are a total of 37 information boards along the educational trail. The trail is marked in green along its entire length.
