Bestvina: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Běstvina combines sacred buildings, a château, traces of history and paths leading into the countryside. A notable example is the parish church of St John the Baptist: in 1726, it was remodelled in the Baroque style from an earlier Gothic building.

Culture and History

The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Běstvina was probably built around 1720 and has a six-pointed star-shaped floor plan. The chapel contains a wooden group of figures entitled “Apotheosis of St John of Nepomuk”.

Běstvina Château stands at the main crossroads in the centre of Běstvina. It is currently not open to the public. Behind the château is a landscaped park established in the early 19th century.

Further sacred buildings are spread throughout the village and its immediate surroundings: the Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the hill known as Vinice dates from the early 18th century. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Virgin Mary is located on the eastern edge of Běstvina.

Nature and Landscape

The Hluboš pond is suitable for swimming. Another cultural monument is the weir of the Pařížov Dam, which was designed in a Gothic Revival style.

A nature park is located in the wooded valley of the Doubrava. There, the river flows through a rocky riverbed, so the landscape is characterised not only by the water but also by woodland and rock.

Hiking and Trails

Three signposted hiking trails begin in Běstvina. Běstvina is also a named waypoint on the Via Czechia Central Trail. Near Běstvina, this trail enters the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area.

Traces of Earlier Settlement

Remains of a possibly medieval settlement can still be found in a forest near Běstvina towards Spačice. At this possibly medieval settlement site, building foundations and an almost filled-in, stone-lined well can be identified.
