Lány lies in the valley of the Bylanka River. The river flows through the village from south to north; the local Bylanka–Lány biocorridor runs along the stream flowing through the municipality.

Culture and history

The Kozojedská Fortress was built in the 13th century. The fortress in Lány is associated with a mention of Bohuněk of Lány from around 1386. The remains of the Kozojedská Fortress include a visible main acropolis and traces of the former moat. The site can be reached via a turnoff from Road I/17 towards Sobětuchy, then along a smaller local road and upstream along the stream.

Landscape

Bučina and Krkanka are mountains in the vicinity of Lány. Palác Hill (Heřmanův Městec) is located in the immediate vicinity of Lány. The hill Na Hranicích (Jeníkovice u Choltic) is also located nearby.
