Vortová: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “Pražská stezka” long-distance cycle route passes directly through Vortová on its way from Brno to Prague.

Nature

The Utopenec Nature Reserve encompasses the floodplain of the Vortovský potok between Utopenec Pond and the Hamerská přehrada Dam. It includes peatland and wet meadow communities along a meandering stream, as well as rare wetland plants, including orchids and bog species. Utopenec provides a habitat for amphibians, reptiles and wetland birds; black storks also frequently visit the area to forage.

Návesník is a protected natural monument in the cadastral area of Vortová. It protects communities of peatlands, fens and wet Molinia meadows, Nardus grasslands, as well as a pond with sedge stands along the banks and aquatic vegetation.

Active Adventures

Vortová serves as a starting point for summer hikes and winter skiing trips to Žákova hora. Vortová has three ponds suitable for relaxing or swimming; one of them belongs to a fishing area of the Český rybářský svaz that is not managed specifically for trout.

Cycling around Vortová mainly takes place on forest roads with little traffic; along the way, there are frequent opportunities to stop at the surrounding ponds.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a distinctive landmark of the municipality, is located in the centre of Vortová. It was completed in July 1882 and built in the pseudo-Romanesque style. Services are held according to the current announcements.

Vortová continues to preserve the traditional masked Shrovetide procession, known locally as “Vostatky”. Historical glassmaking in Vortová existed from the 17th century until the 1750s. There is also a collection of restored log houses that are still in use.
