Chrast: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Chrast showcases its history particularly vividly in the château: it was once the seat and later the summer residence of the bishops of Hradec Králové. The château building houses the Chrast Municipal Museum and the municipal office. The Municipal Museum was founded in 1893 by Vincenc Paulus.
Culture
A special feature of the museum is the former château chapel with its original wall paintings. It serves as the museum’s concert hall and is used for concerts. The permanent exhibition at the Chrast Museum also includes a model of the Codex Gigas made for the Prague exhibition.
Nature
The château garden in Chrast was laid out in the mid-19th century by Bishop Karel Hanl and transformed into a park in 1903 by the Prague architect Thomayer. The garden is open to the public all year round.
The Chrastecka educational trail connects the ČD railway station in Chrast with the ČD railway station in Vrbatův Kostelec and is 12.47 km long. The Žejbro River borders almost the entire Chrastecka educational trail and flows through Chrast. In the vicinity of Chrast, there is an island on Horecký rybník that provides refuge for swans and wild ducks.
History
The Church of the Holy Trinity stands in the middle of Chrast’s market square. The first records of St. Martin’s Church in Chrast date from 1350; it was consecrated on 3 August 1721.
The water tower in Chrašice was built to supply the bishop’s château in Chrast with utility water. Bishop Matouš Ferdinand von Bilenberg had the water pipeline constructed in 1662. Following its reconstruction, the old water tower in Chrašice was opened to the public on 19 September 2012.
