Kněžice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Cycling route 4234 leads from Mladotice via Kněžice to Spytice. It is 5.5 kilometres long and designed as an easy connecting route.

Landscape and Nature

Kněžice lies in a hilly landscape enclave in the foothills of the Železné hory. The area is situated between the left course of the Doubrava and the course of the Doubravka stream.

The regional biocorridor RK 1336 runs through the Kněžice area along the Doubravka and Hostačovka watercourses. It includes the local biocentres BC5 – Na březině, BC6 – Obecní dolík and BC7 – Kněžická stráň.

Cycling

Cycling route 4188 between Podhořany u Ronova and Ronov nad Doubravou runs through the Kněžice planning area. A cycling circuit through the Kněžice area leads towards Běstvina, Třemošnice, Závratec, Mladotice, Ronov nad Doubravou and Chvalovice, offering views of the Železné hory, Čáslavsko and the Českomoravská vrchovina.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Church of St Martin lies about 2 kilometres from Kněžice and was originally the parish church of the vanished village of Stusyně. The first written mention of the village and its parish church dates from 1352. The Church of St Martin stands on a rock above the Doubrava.

At house no. 23 in Kněžice, there are archaeological traces of a fortress that is registered as a cultural monument. Kněžice is also connected with the historic Libická (Liběcká) Trail, which was used from the 8th to the 12th century as a connection between Bohemia and Moravia.

The masonry chapel in Kněžice was built in 1930 in place of an earlier wooden bell tower.

Getting Around Locally

Kněžice lies outside the main road and railway connections of the East Bohemian region. Three bus routes operate in the Kněžice area. The two bus stops Kněžice and Kněžice, bytovky are located on road III/33733.

A route to the Church of St Martin that is accessible by vehicle and on foot all year round leads from Kněžice.
