Zderaz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Zderaz showcases its history in accessible sandstone dwellings and exhibitions; at the same time, the Maštale Nature Reserve extends across the cadastral area of Zderaz.

Culture and History

The largest accessible dwelling carved into sandstone in Zderaz comprises a living area and a stable and features a replica of a historic clay oven. The dwelling carved into sandstone at the southern end of Zderaz is a protected monument. A smaller accessible cellar houses a photo exhibition about Zderaz’s preserved cellars.

The Zderazský domeček features a permanent exhibition on the history of the village. It covers the local history of washing, agriculture, weaving and skiing. The Zderazský domeček is located in the village centre on the main road towards Skuteč and Nové Hrady. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is one of Zderaz’s significant monuments.

Nature and Landscape

The Maštale Nature Reserve covers 1,083.6 hectares and features an undulating relief with significant Upper Cretaceous sandstones, particularly glauconitic Cenomanian sandstones.

Near Zderaz lies the natural rock formation Zajíc, featuring a statue of a hare; marked trails lead there from Zderaz or from the trail junction near the Polanka cabin. The Kapalice spring is located about 500 metres away in the vicinity of the Polanka cabin; a marked trail leads to it and is suitable for cyclists and small children.

Near Zderaz, between Zderaz and the Polanka cabin, lie the Kúpadla, three small ponds arranged one above the other. In the vicinity of the Polanka cabin, between Polanka and Bor u Skutče, lies the natural rock formation Kazatelna; a cycle path passes by it.

Trails and Access

Zderaz is a starting point for visiting the Pivnice Nature Monument. The Pivnice Nature Monument is temporarily closed because of a landslide and continuing damage to the gorge walls. Public access to the Pivnice Nature Monument is restricted to the tourist-marked trail until 22 May 2030.

The Pivnická stezka circular trail is 22.4 kilometres long and leads through the Pivnice rock gorge and Zderaz. The Zderaz–Pivnice–Zderaz route begins in Zderaz on blue cycle route No. 8 towards Dolany, then leads through the gorge back to the blue cycle route and on to Zderaz.
