Svídnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Church of Saint James in Práčov is the oldest surviving building in the municipality of Svídnice; part of the building dates from 1364 to 1369.

Nature

The Strádovské Peklo Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral area of Svídnice u Slatiňan and covers 87.32 hectares. It protects a complex of near-natural scree forests with endangered plant and animal species. The Vlastivědná stezka Krajem Chrudimky educational trail runs between the Křižanovice Reservoir and the Práčov balancing reservoir. In this section, the Chrudimka has created a deep, gorge-like inversion valley.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint James in Práčov is registered as a cultural monument under catalogue number 992 and is considered an important example of mature Gothic architecture from the Luxembourg period. Its furnishings include an organ dating from 1815, which was put back into operation in 2015.

The prehistoric hillfort site in Práčov still has visible remains of its fortification system, particularly along the path to Trpišov; it lies mostly on private property. On the village square in Svídnice stands a bell tower preserved as a cultural monument, with a Neoclassical octagonal base and a roof.

The Svídnice paper mill, building no. 9 at the reservoir, is also known as Horní mlýn. The privately owned 18th-century building is associated with the municipality's most significant period of economic prosperity. The paper mill was founded in 1714; at the beginning of the 19th century, it was expanded to include a mill.

Trails and Surroundings

A blue-marked hiking trail passes through Svídnice. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Slatiňany to Práčov, and a marked local cycling route runs through Práčov.

Near Svídnice lie the ruins of Strádov Castle southeast of Práčov, on a rocky spur on the right bank of the Chrudimka; the castle dates from the 14th century. Also near Svídnice, southwest of Práčov, lies the Slavická obora game preserve, where red deer and mouflon are kept.
