Velká Bystřice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Velká Bystřice combines marked hiking trails with a chateau, church, folklore and contemporary art. Between the chateau complex, the chateau park and several cultural venues, a multifaceted townscape emerges that brings together historical monuments and contemporary cultural offerings.

Getting Around

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Velká Bystřice. A green-marked hiking trail begins at the railway stop in Velká Bystřice and leads through the valley of the Lošovský stream and past a water reservoir. The Cultural and Information Centre provides bicycle maps and tourist maps free of charge.

Culture and History

The chateau complex of Velká Bystřice comprises the chateau, the buildings of the brewery’s former malt house and the chateau park. This chateau park contains a newly built amphitheatre with a varied seasonal programme.

The exhibition of Haná folk costumes is located in the west wing of the chateau. It displays Haná and Blaťácké folk costumes, as well as costume components from private collections, the collection of the Haná folklore ensemble and the depot of the Vlastivědné muzeum v Olomouci.

The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist is a prominent landmark of Velká Bystřice and was first mentioned in 1283. Visitors can also visit the Husova sbor church in Velká Bystřice.

Events and Art

The international folklore festival “Lidový rok” takes place in Velká Bystřice and was founded in 1989. The festival welcomes ensembles from all over Europe; traditional music, dances and handicrafts are presented.

Galeriezet presents exhibitions by independent, prominent contemporary artists from the Czech Republic and abroad. The represented fields include painting, drawing, graphic art, sculpture, photography and video art. Galeriezet also organises talks, concerts featuring classical, jazz and alternative music, as well as poetry readings.
