Pňovice combines a historic village square with a landscape in which part of the cadastral area of Pňovice extends into the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area. The Neoclassical Church of Saint Wenceslas dominates the village square; it was built in 1771. Nearby stands a historic rectory dating from 1773, while at the end of the village square there is a restored statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1860.

History

The first surviving written mention of Pňovice dates from 1249 and refers to a medieval fortress, the seat of the Vladika Oneš of Pňovice. In the 14th century, Pňovice belonged to the estate of the Lords of Sovinec. Jan Pňovský ze Sovince, who became captain of the city of Litovel, came from a branch of these lords established in Pňovice.

The area's earlier history is also documented: the area around Pňovice was already inhabited in the Neolithic and Hallstatt periods. Numerous archaeological finds from these and later periods are preserved at the Regional Museum in Olomouc.

Nature

Pňovice lies in a flat agricultural landscape in the Morava floodplain, between the Hlavnice stream and the Oskava River. Part of the cadastral area extends into the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area, which is characterized by preserved floodplain forests and the meandering Morava River.

Events

At historical events, the Kirri Historical Association demonstrates old crafts such as rope making, pouch making, tablet weaving, lucet work, arrow making and historical cooking. The Pňovice Brass Band holds public rehearsals in Pňovice and neighboring municipalities during the summer. Its history dates back to 1875, when headmaster Josef Řehák assembled a small band of former military musicians. The 2023 Svatováclavské hody festival also featured a concert by Trio Moraviensis in the Church of Saint Wenceslas.

Activities

The Olšina pond is used for fishing, recreation and relaxation in nature; Rybáři Pňovice takes care of the pond and its surroundings. The organization also holds fishing events and fishing competitions for locals and visitors.

The Oskava Cup Pňovice, held on 26 May 2018, combined a competition for teams of six with approximately 8 km of cycling on roads and dirt tracks, approximately 2 km of rafting and crossing the Oskava from one bank to the other. In 2020, the Oskava Cup Pňovice was held for the fifth time.

On the Zlatonosná Oskava paddling route, paddlers in Pňovice navigate the backwater area of the power plant weir. Before the next low bridge, boaters must pull their boats ashore and carry them along the footpath below the power plant.
