Nature

The Údolí Bystřice protected area covers the cadastral territory of Hlubočky and extends through the Bystřice Valley between Smilovský mlýn and Hlubočky over 751 hectares. The area is predominantly characterised by preserved, species-rich and acidophilous beech forests; ravine forests also occur in small areas. In the south there are oak-hornbeam forests and dry acidophilous oak forests, as well as remnants of mesophilic and wet meadows in the river floodplain.

The Hrubovodské sutě Nature Reserve lies on the slopes along the right bank of the Bystřice near Hrubá Voda, a district of Hlubočky. It protects a geomorphologically diverse area with natural and near-natural forest ecosystems of the fourth and fifth forest vegetation zones, including beech, fir-beech, ravine and riparian ash-alder forests. It is also home to characteristic, endangered and regionally declining wild plant and free-living animal species.

In the vicinity of Hlubočky are Kluče Hill near Olomouc-Lošov and the mountains of Skalice and Růžový Kopec. Stráž is a mountain in the vicinity of Hlubočky.

Trails and Activities

The Údolím Bystřice educational trail is a 13-kilometre, blue-marked route between the Domašov nad Bystřicí and Hrubá Voda railway stations. It is not a circular route and includes 11 stops focusing on the nature, geology and history of the landscape along the Bystřice River in the deeply incised valley of the Nízký Jeseník.

The Hrubík Goblin educational trail is over 1 kilometre long and offers seven educational and entertaining stops for families with children. The Kamzíkova treetop trail at the Hrubá Voda resort is a system of climbing elements, slides and a rope maze 13 metres above the ground, suitable for children and adults.

The bobsleigh track in Hlubočky has 17 bends, including 10 left-hand bends and 7 right-hand bends, as well as two 360-degree carousels, a 45-metre-long bridge and a 9-metre-long tunnel.

Culture and History

The filial Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located in the village square of Hlubočky near Školní Street. The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows is situated in Mariánské Údolí near the Moravia works.

The first surviving written record of Hluboký Castle dates from 1351. The aristocratic residence lies in the valley of the Bystřice River between the Hrubá Voda and Hrubá Voda–zastávka railway stations, in the cadastral territory of the municipality of Hlubočky. It was built on a rocky, tongue-shaped spur surrounded by the river on three sides.

The Church of Our Lady of the Snows is located in the vicinity of Hlubočky. The Church of St Michael is also located there. Čechovy sady is a park in the vicinity of Hlubočky. Vildštejn is a castle ruin in the wider regional surroundings of Hlubočky.
