Uničov brings its history to life at specific locations throughout the town. The town history exhibition of the Muzeum U Vodní branky is housed in a former municipal armoury, which opened as a museum in 1993. Visitors can discover valuable three-dimensional objects that have survived from the former activities of Uničov’s inhabitants. Part of the Muzeum U Vodní branky is used as an exhibition hall for temporary art and local history exhibitions.

Culture

The parish church of Uničov is a three-nave building dating from the late 14th century and was originally built in the Gothic style with two square towers on the façade. A preserved stone image of a bishop or abbot, probably Saint Procopius, can be found in a niche of the parish church’s spiral staircase.

The Baroque Museum is located in the centre of Uničov in a listed building next to the vicarage. The Medelská Gate is the only one of Uničov’s former town gates that has survived to this day. The town hall tower of Uničov also serves as a lookout tower; on the way up, visitors can enjoy views over the roofs of the historic town centre, the surrounding landscape and the distant Jeseníky Mountains.

Faith and Tradition

The tradition of offering candles in Uničov’s town church is said to date back to the late 15th century. During the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, an old wax candle was blessed; the candles distributed to the faithful were then lit, followed by a procession to the town walls of Uničov and to a statue of the Virgin Mary in the parish garden.

Trails and Landscape

The Městský park Uničov educational trail is 1.2 km long and has the lowest level of difficulty. The Uničov archaeological educational trail introduces important archaeological sites in the town. It is also suitable for the youngest visitors and leads past stations featuring various play elements.

The stations of the Uničov archaeological educational trail are located near cycle paths, so a circuit ride along the archaeological educational trail can be a suitable programme for a spring cycling trip. The Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area is 8.32 km from Uničov and is presented as a nearby destination for hiking, cycling or rafting.
