The first surviving written mention of Bystročice dates back to 1131.

History and Church

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built in Bystročice in 1858 after a chapel was destroyed in a fire in 1856. The rectangular single-nave building has a tower on the southern façade and a recessed segmental-arched ending on the northern side. A clock was installed in the church tower in 1887.

Culture and Local Traditions

Archaeological finds date the beginnings of settlement in the cadastral area of the present-day municipalities of Bystročice and Žerůvky back to the Neolithic period. Bystročice is also home to a statue of Saint Francis de Sales dating from 1858 and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1820.

The local history also includes the production of homemade farmers’ Tvarůžky, which continued in Bystročice despite strong competition from the surrounding municipalities until the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Fruit growing increased in the municipalities during the 19th century; a large proportion of the fruit was subsequently dried.

Cycling

Bystročický Poutníček is a recurring cycling event traditionally starting in Bystročice. The cycle path between Bystročice and Nedvězí is 1.8 kilometres long. It forms part of the interregional Cycle Route No. 5 and EuroVelo 9 Baltic–Adriatic, the so-called Jantarová stezka (Amber Trail).
