Bystrovany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bystrovany is located in the Haná Plain, about six kilometres east of Olomouc. At the entrance to the village, next to the Bystřice River, there is a riverside park; a weir is also located on the Bystřice River.

Nature and Trails

A tourist information board and a place to rest are located by the fire station on the Bystřička River. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the Bělidla stop via Bystrovanská Street to the Bystřička River, then continues to a children's playground. The Amber Trail follows the Bystřice upstream to Bystrovany, where it connects to cycle route 6103. This is linked to the main cycle route 5.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Bystrovany dates from 1277; at that time, the village belonged to Hradisko Monastery in Olomouc. The Chapel of Saint Bartholomew stands in the centre of Bystrovany village square and dates from 1887. In front of the chapel stands a stone cross that was consecrated in the same year, 1887. The Chapel of Saint Bartholomew had already been consecrated before the cross was blessed.

Regular commemorative ceremonies are held at the Bystrovany cross in May and December to remember the fallen American airmen. On 18 December 1944, seven American airmen were killed near the cross when a Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress attacked by German fighter aircraft crashed.

Leisure

The Bystrovany leisure, sports and educational complex has tennis courts.
