Huzová: Holiday apartments and houses

In Huzová, two historical periods of the Church of St. Giles come together: it contains a Romanesque core, while its historic core probably dates from the 15th century. At the same time, Huzová is an access point with bus connections to the marked hiking trails in the Sovinecko Nature Park.

Culture and history

The interior of the Church of St. Giles features ornamental painted decoration, colourful stained-glass windows, decorated altars and a Neoclassical pulpit. On the outside, there is a glazed niche with a biblical depiction.

A document issued by Bishop Zdík mentions Huzová in 1141 under its original name, Guzoue. The settlement was probably designated as a transit station from the beginning of its settlement, on the country road from Olomouc to Wrocław.

Historical evidence can also be found in the village: in front of the Church of St. Giles stands a stone cross dating from 1827. A statue of St. Joseph from the first quarter of the 19th century stands by the cemetery wall. On the outskirts of the village there is also a Marian column, an unusually composed sculpture from 1710 created by a folk artist.

Historically, flax cultivation and processing, as well as weaving at home, were important sources of income for the people of Huzová. In Huzová, Dolní mlýn has survived as the only one of three mills built consecutively.

On the outskirts of Veveří stands a large building, the so-called rychta, dating from the end of the 18th century. The ruins of the Chapel of St. Jerome are also located in Veveří. They are surrounded by a former cemetery and an enclosure wall and are among the few surviving remnants of the village of Veveří, which was abandoned after the Second World War.

Nature and trails

The Sovinecko Nature Park is characterised by deep valleys and distinctive slopes covered in dense forest. A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Huzová via Pod Líchou and the Teplička Valley to Sovinec Castle.

Another hiking route from Huzová through the Teplička Valley follows the Teplička River and continues via Pod Karlovcem to the small settlement of Pasecký Žleb.

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads eastwards from Huzová to the 706-metre-high summit of Pomezí and onwards towards the 800-metre-high summit of Slunečná.
