Hranice na Moravě combines historic sites with natural attractions and outdoor activities. The town and its surroundings reveal many different facets, from historic cultural sites to striking karst formations.

Culture

Hranice Castle houses a museum. The “Hranice na mušce” exhibition displays weapons from the Hranice collection. The castle courtyard features a unique glass roof. Its architectural history began with a fortress built in the 14th century, first mentioned in 1398.

The Hranice Synagogue commemorates the Jewish community of Hranice, which settled here at the beginning of the 17th century. The present building was constructed in 1863 in the then-current Moorish-Byzantine style and served for religious services until 1940.

The Jewish Cemetery in Hranice was declared a cultural monument in 1991. It has been open to the public since 1994 and can be visited by arrangement with TIC Hranice; TIC lends visitors a key for this purpose. The oldest surviving gravestone dates from 1684/1685.

Kostelíček in Hranice is a pilgrimage site. Its complex includes 14 Stations of the Cross chapels; the first written mention dates from 1492.

Nature

The Zbrašov Aragonite Caves are located nearby. With a constant year-round temperature of 14.5 °C, they are the warmest caves in the Czech Republic. The caves have been open to the public since 1926.

The Hůrka u Hranic National Nature Reserve protects unique karst formations as well as rare flora and fauna in the surrounding area. The reserve covers 37.45 hectares. The Hranice Abyss is part of the Hůrka u Hranic National Nature Reserve and has a measured total depth of 519.5 metres and a water depth of 450 metres.

Outdoor Activities

The Arboretum of the Secondary Forestry School in Hranice contains unique woody plants and a botanical-geological educational rock garden. It features an educational trail approximately one kilometre long. Nine stations with information boards focus on woody plants, ornithology, beekeeping, botany, environmental education and the geological past of the Moravian Gate.

The Bečva Cycle Path begins in Hranice behind the bridge over the Bečva and follows the left bank of the Bečva to Týn nad Bečvou. Visitors can enjoy excursions along the cycle path by bicycle, kick scooter or inline skates.
