Polkovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Polkovice leads directly into a complex local history: Ostrovy is considered the most significant prehistoric archaeological site in the cadastral area of Polkovice and is located on a slight elevation in the valley floodplain near the Valová. Archaeological finds provide evidence of settlement in Ostrovy and its surroundings from the Late Stone Age to the Roman Imperial period. The lower course of the Valová River runs north of Polkovice.

Culture and History

Polkovice Chateau is a single-storey Baroque chateau dating from the first half of the 18th century. The restored chateau is owned by the municipality and serves cultural purposes. The Neo-Gothic Church of Saint Bartholomew was originally built as a parish church in 1908–1909. It stands on the village square and has unplastered façades made of dark red bricks. The stone wayside shrine is one of the oldest monuments in Polkovice and was built at the end of the 17th century.

Experiences

The Jezdecký klub na Hanáckém dvoře offers riding lessons, trail rides, riding groups, riding camps and programmes for schools in Polkovice. The educational and experiential programme “Life on the Farm” teaches children about goats, sheep, poultry, agricultural machinery, crops, and the life and needs of horses, and also includes horse riding. At Hanácký dvůr, there were riding groups such as pony vaulting, a pony and baby riding school, and a riding section; children’s riding camps were held there in summer.

Festivals and Community Life

The Polkovický Goulash Festival is a recurring public autumn event featuring competitions in cooking goulash in a cauldron and goulash tasting. The public festival also includes music and attractions for children. The Polkovické hody festivities include a public programme at the municipality’s sports ground.
