Velké Albrechtice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Velké Albrechtice lies in a valley on the Bílovka River, southeast of the town of Bílovec. The town’s historical landmarks include the Late Gothic Church of St. John the Baptist and the archaeological site of the water castle.

Culture and History

The Late Gothic Church of St. John the Baptist dates from the first half of the 15th century and is listed in the state register of monuments. Its tower contains two bells from 1505 and 1508; in 1820, the church received a new vault. The cemetery wall next to the church has a core dating from the 16th century and is up to 3 metres high in places.

A war memorial was erected in the local cemetery in 1923. Its artistic design was created by the academic sculptor Engelbert Kaps from Saubsdorf. The Hrobka Sedlnických z Choltic is also located in the cemetery in Velké Albrechtice; it is designed as a wall with two coats of arms of the Sedlnických z Choltic family and eight gravestones of members of this noble family.

The archaeological site of the water castle of Velké Albrechtice is listed as a cultural monument. The pond at the site is a remnant of the former moat. The water castle was probably built to protect a trade route running through the Bílovka valley and fell into disrepair at the end of the 15th century.

Landscape and Cycling

The location and surrounding terrain of Velké Albrechtice are suitable for cycling trips. Cycling routes 6190 and 6011 pass through the town. The Kolem osmnáctého poledníku circular cycling route also runs through Velké Albrechtice; it is 47 kilometres long and climbs 780 metres in elevation. On this circular route, the climbs near Tísek and Čavisov offer views of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids and the Ostrava Plain.
