Slavkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Slavkovský Chateau is the oldest building in Slavkov. It was created in 1586 by converting the original fortress. The chapel with its Renaissance vault is the only surviving and heritage-protected part of Slavkovský Chateau.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Anne was built between 1657 and 1665 by Václav Sigmund Sedlnický z Choltic. It is a single-nave Baroque church and was originally dedicated to All Saints. Its walls contain tombstones of the Lords of Slavkov from the second half of the 16th century.

A sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1722 was also moved to the Church of St. Anne. The front of its pedestal bears a relief coat of arms of the founders, the Counts Podstatský z Prusinovic. The Chapel of St. Barbara, a Baroque chapel from the beginning of the 19th century, stands on Zámecká Street.

Nature

The Hvozdnice Nature Reserve covers areas in the cadastral territory of Slavkov u Opavy. It is home to species-rich communities of ponds, wetlands and remnants of alluvial forests, which provide a refuge for many bird and amphibian species.

The Hvozdnice educational trail in Slavkov is 9.5 km long and runs along three ponds with wetlands and pools. It provides an opportunity to walk through the protected Hvozdnice natural area. The educational trail can be accessed from at least four directions: from Slavkov, Hertice, Otice and Uhlířov.

At several locations in the Hvozdnice Nature Reserve, the bedrock comes to the surface. Fossilised remains of invertebrates, especially cephalopod and bivalve shells, as well as plant remains from the Lower Carboniferous, can be found in clayey-silty shales.
