Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem combines distinctive cultural monuments with the Les Na Rozdílné Nature Reserve and the Skalka Trail leading towards the mountain landscape. The village’s most important landmark is considered to be the wooden Church of St Prokop and St Barbara, “Dřevěný kostel sv. Prokopa a sv. Barbory”, which is also known as the “Ruský kostelík”. The village thus brings historic architecture, protected nature and paths into the mountain landscape together in one setting.

Culture

The wooden Church of St Barbara, “Dřevěný kostel sv. Barbory”, is a protected cultural monument. Inside, it has a richly carved iconostasis whose icons are arranged in five tiers. The church’s full name refers to the two saints Prokop and Barbara, while the name “Ruský kostelík” is recorded as another name for the building.

The Karla Svolinského Gallery houses artworks and donations from more than 246 Czech and international artists. The outdoor installations in front of the gallery are open to the public year-round. In this way, the gallery complements the historical focus with artworks indoors and permanently accessible installations outdoors.

A stone cross stands in front of the Church of St Mary Magdalene, “Kostel sv. Máří Magdalény”. It is registered as a protected monument and bears the Czech monument register number 45703/8-679. The church, cross and gallery thus form three named cultural sites, each with its own character.

Nature and Landscape

Les Na Rozdílné is a nature reserve in the cadastral area of Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem. Its purpose is to protect a regionally significant, near-natural mixed forest ecosystem with a gene pool of autochthonous woody plants and a habitat for endangered animal species. This therefore covers both the near-natural structure of the mixed forest and the preservation of native woody plants and the habitat of endangered animal species.

Hiking and Mountain Sports

The Kunčický March, “Po stopách partyzánů”, was held in 2025 as a traditional event for the 24th time. It offered routes of 7 and 15 kilometres; the start was at Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem railway station, and the finish was at the Turistický spolek hut near Žabák. The event therefore combines a fixed starting point and destination with two different route lengths.

Mount Ondřejník is a popular paragliding location. The Skalka Trail can be reached from Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem by train and then on foot via the blue-marked hiking route to the Pod Skalkou trail junction. The route therefore consists first of a train journey and then a walk along the blue-marked route to the aforementioned junction.

Railway and Village Development

The railway connection in Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem was put into operation in 1888. The rail connection to the mountains contributed to the development of tourism and recreation in the village. The railway station is also the starting point of the Kunčický March, “Po stopách partyzánů”, while the Skalka Trail likewise begins with a train journey.
