The Hraniční meandry Odry are a protected natural monument covering an area of 131.6 hectares. They encompass a 7.5-kilometre section of the Oder with five large river bends and can be explored on foot, by bicycle or by boat. This places protected status, the course of the river and various forms of transport directly alongside one another.
Paths and Water
The Červená stezka can be travelled by bicycle or walked on foot. Twelve neo-Gothic red-brick buildings in Bohumín are part of the Červená stezka. The route thus combines its path with a series of clearly named buildings.
Aquacentrum Bohumín offers a 25-metre swimming pool, a relaxation pool, massage jets, water spouts, a waterfall, an outdoor pool, a 48-metre-long water slide, a children's paddling pool and other attractions. The sauna world at Aquacentrum Bohumín includes Finnish saunas, a steam sauna, experience showers and a Kneipp trail. Swimming facilities, water attractions and the sauna area are described here as different components of the same Aquacentrum Bohumín.
Culture and History
In Starý Bohumín, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary dates from the 15th century. After decades, it once again became a pilgrimage site.
The Pustyňa Chapel in Starý Bohumín is a small Baroque building from the 18th century.
The permanent exhibition “Bohumín - pohledy do minulosti města” is located in the basement of the renovated Art Nouveau house Pod Zeleným dubem in Starý Bohumín, which houses the Městské muzeum. The Městské muzeum also displays the Starý Bohumín treasure, consisting of 54 coins from the years 1660 to 1860, as well as a mammoth molar, a vertebra and a boundary stone from the period of the First Republic, which were found in the meanders of the Oder. The museum content therefore combines an exhibition on the city's history with individual historical objects and objects found in the meanders.
The MO-S5 Na Trati infantry bunker offers regular guided tours on weekends and public holidays; outside regular opening hours, visits are possible by telephone appointment. In 2004, the infantry bunker was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The crypt of the Counts Henckel von Donnersmarck is a two-storey building with a crypt in the basement and a sacred space on the upper floor. In 1752, it was converted into its present form.
The historic sites in Bohumín and Starý Bohumín thus range from a church and chapel through a museum and bunker to a two-storey sacred building.
