Chotěbuz is shaped above all by its archaeological and historical heritage. The Chotěbuz-Podobora archaeological site lies on a river terrace and is one of the most important prehistoric and early medieval monuments in Cieszyn Silesia. A large three-part hillfort once stood on this terrace; the Olše originally flowed below the site.
Culture and history
The Chotěbuz-Podobora Archaeopark reconstructs the former hillfort with fortifications, contemporary residential buildings, production facilities, a cult object and an ironworking furnace. Interactive exhibitions focus on the local archaeological site. The Archaeopark also includes a ceramics workshop with a kiln and potter’s wheel, which is used for various school and public events.
Another historical chapter is presented by the Muzeum Československého lehkého opevnění Chotěbuz. It comprises three reconstructed light fortification structures of the vz. 37 type, each illustrating a different historical period. For school visits and field trips, other dates can also be arranged by prior agreement.
Hláska u zámku is an approximately 10-metre-high cylindrical stone tower and the last surviving remnant of Chotěbuz’s Gothic fortifications from the 13th and 14th centuries.
Cycling routes and equestrian sports
Cycling route 6100 between Dolní Těrlicko and Albrechtice runs through Chotěbuz. Cycling route 10 between Český Těšín, Karviná and Bohumín also passes through the town.
Stáj U Luka has two outdoor riding arenas – a sand arena and a sand arena with geotextile – each covering 4,000 m², as well as a 70 × 24 m indoor riding arena with show-jumping equipment. It offers rides in the surrounding area, carriage rides and, in winter, sleigh rides.
