Culture and History

Several specific historical points of reference stand side by side in Dolní Marklovice. The foundation stone of the St. Wenceslas Monument was laid on 28 September 1929, before the monument was unveiled on 28 October 1930. The monument was created by the academic sculptor Julius Pelikán from Olomouc. Thus, both the dates of its creation and the artist's name have been recorded at the same location.

The division of Marklovice in 1920 is also part of the area's history. The part known as Dolní Marklovice belongs to the Czech Republic, while Horní Marklovice lies in Poland. This geographical and national classification is a separate aspect of the place name and complements the visible historical points of reference.

Another prominent site is the wooden Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Dolní Marklovice. It was built in 1739. An older church had already stood on the site in the 14th century. During restoration work at the end of the 20th century, murals with floral motifs were uncovered inside the church. Its architectural history therefore extends back over several centuries and also includes the decorative features that were made visible again during the restoration.

The cast-iron cross in Dolní Marklovice is also one of the local cultural monuments. It stands on a stone pedestal, depicts the Corpus Christi, and bears a relief of Our Lady of Sorrows. At the same time, it is one of the cultural monuments listed in Petrovice u Karviné. In this monument, its form, imagery, and classification remain closely interconnected.

Nature and Landscape

An independent natural point of reference is the Dolní Marklovice nature monument. It protects the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina). The protection of this species is thus explicitly connected with the nature monument and the place name.

The landscape information distinguishes between several spatial levels. In the immediate vicinity of Dolní Marklovice lies (Borek [Petrovice u Karviné]), a hill. Něbrojův kopec [Dětmarovice], also a hill, is likewise located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional vicinity, by contrast, lie the mountains Górka Wislicka and Gora Chełm. Thus, the two hills in the nearby and surrounding areas are contrasted with the two mountains in the wider regional vicinity, without merging these geographical and landscape references into a single distance category.
