Culture and History
The Church of St John the Baptist in Dolní Lutyně has a single-nave body, two adjoining chapels and a four-sided tower on the west façade. It was completed in 1746; the church and its main altar were consecrated on 9 September 1759.
The Rakusova Barn in Dolní Lutyně is a valuable polygonal log barn dating from 1803 with a thatched roof. Dolní Lutyně Chateau was declared a cultural monument on 4 October 1994. Individual guided tours with explanations at Dolní Lutyně Chateau can be arranged in advance for groups.
Věřňovice also features notable evidence of local history: The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in front of the Chapel of Saint Isidore is a high-quality example of folk stonework dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The Věřňovice war memorial on the road to the border crossing is a specially designed monument dating from 1866 with a wrought-iron railing.
Nature
The Věřňovice Nature Monument protects a distinctive river terrace of the Olše with an almost natural forest stand as well as protected plant and animal species. The Niva Olše–Věřňovice European protected area includes, among others, the cadastral areas of Dolní Lutyně and Věřňovice.
An unusually large population of snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) occurs in the Věřňovice area, compared with elsewhere in the district. Spring snowflakes (Leucojum vernum) occur there only rarely.
Cycling
Cycle Route 6257 runs along the Olše and Odra rivers and is suitable for cycling tourism. Most of Cycle Route 6257 runs on asphalted or paved paths suitable for road bikes and trekking bikes.
