Dětmarovice combines historical landmarks with distinctive details of the local townscape. This is particularly evident in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene (Kostel sv. Maří Magdalény): the single-nave sacred building was constructed in 1870 in the Neo-Romanesque style and stands on the site of an original wooden church dating from 1447. As a Czech cultural monument, the building is registered under number 104132.

Culture and History

One of the oldest surviving buildings in Dětmarovice is the Něbrojova Chapel. The chapel dates from 1860. Its history is also connected with an archival record from 1866. This documents the authorization to celebrate Mass there twice a year: on St. Mark’s Day and on the feast day of St. Isidore. The construction date and ecclesiastical use therefore appear side by side in the surviving records, without the chapel having to be reduced to a single historical period.

Another historical landmark in the municipality is Bendův kříž. It is considered the oldest surviving wayside or field cross in Dětmarovice and was renovated in 2004. The municipality’s history also includes the only well-preserved bunker in the area. This structure is a light fortification, a so-called řopík, dating from 1937. The memorial to the victims of the Second World War dates from the 1950s and adds a reminder of the consequences of the war to these historical traces.

Townscape and Surviving Landmarks

In addition to sacred and military-historical buildings, technical and rural landmarks are among the distinctive elements of Dětmarovice. Kempného mlýn has a replica dating from 2012. Větřák is one of the last surviving windmills in Dětmarovice. At the same time, it is the only windmill that has remained in its original location. The two details point to different forms of preservation: while a replica is mentioned in the case of Kempného mlýn, the original location is precisely part of the recorded characteristic of Větřák.

Bendův usedlost also contributes to the characteristic townscape. A group of five memorial trees is located there. It consists of two pedunculate oaks and three small-leaved lime trees. The precise composition makes the group of trees comprehensible as a single landmark while preserving its connection to this specific homestead.

Nature and Leisure

Hastrmanka is also associated with a private fishing pond in Dětmarovice. Fishing there is possible on a “catch and release” basis. The pond thus represents another clearly defined aspect of the town, distinct from its historical buildings and memorials.

Geographical Setting

Dětmarovice lies on an important railway line. This geographical setting is one of the town’s distinct characteristics and complements the view of its buildings, memorial sites, technical landmarks, and fishing pond.
