Doubrava offers the Doubravská naučná stezka educational trail with two circular routes, complemented by the viewpoint on Doubravský kopec, Lake Kozinec, important cultural sites and DinoPark Ostrava. The attractions therefore range from natural landscapes and mining history to cultural and entertaining activities.

Nature

The Doubravská naučná stezka educational trail is the main attraction. The trail consists of two circular routes: a red route and a blue route. Each station has information panels with maps, descriptions and illustrations of sights. The blue route leads to Doubravský kopec, where there is a covered rest area and a panoramic map.

In good visibility, the viewpoint on Doubravský kopec offers views of almost the entire Beskid Mountains. Lake Kozinec, the largest body of water in Doubrava, is also part of the landscape. It was formed as a result of subsidence caused by coal mining and is an important breeding ground for birds as well as a refuge for protected animal and plant species.

Culture and History

A relic of Saint Hedwig is displayed for public veneration in the Church of Saint Hedwig. Husův sbor was built in Doubrava in 1928 by the architect and builder Čeněk Volný. By a decision of the Ministry of Culture dated 15 November 2001, the building was declared a cultural monument. Its excellent acoustics are used for concerts.

Doubravská dřevěnka is a rare surviving example of folk architecture in the Ostrava-Karviná hard-coal mining district. Among long-established local residents, the building is considered to have been Doubrava’s first school. Národní dům is an important cultural centre in Doubrava, hosting numerous social and cultural events.

The Důl Doubrava mine also bears witness to the town’s industrial past. Its main shaft later became the deepest in the Karviná mining district; the lowest, tenth level was located at a depth of more than 1,000 metres.
