Jilemnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Masaryk Square preserves Jilemnice’s medieval layout; for centuries, the square has formed the heart of the town. The fountain in the square is an important landmark and, at the same time, a valuable technical monument.

Culture and History

The Baroque Church of Saint Lawrence was built from 1729 to 1736 and preserves a stylistically unified Baroque interior. Zvědavá ulička is a unique example of old suburban architecture and was built largely after the town fire of 1788.

Jilemnice Chateau was built in the second half of the 16th century on the site of an older Waldstein fortress and still preserves its Renaissance core. Since 1953, the listed chateau has housed exhibitions of the Krkonoše Museum. One exhibition there displays the Christmas nativity scene by Jáchym Metelka, created from 1883 to 1913; its original mechanism moves 142 figures through 350 types of movement and sound effects. The “White Track” exhibition presents the development of skiing in the Czech lands up to 1938. The museum also presents the history of the western Krkonoše region from the great colonisation in the 13th century through the 20th century and highlights Jilemnice as the natural centre of trade and crafts.

Paths and Routes

The “Jilemnice známá neznámá” educational trail is 7.5 km long, runs through Jilemnice and the surrounding area, and leads to the Chapel of Saint Isidore. The notional starting point of the educational trail is Masaryk Square.

The marked circular cycling route “Jilemnickem křížem krážem” is 24 km long. It runs via Kozinec, Mříčná, Martinice, Horní Branná and Hrabačov before returning to the centre of Jilemnice.

Activities

The Hraběnka area has racing cross-country ski tracks with a total length of almost 20 km, as well as the “Buď fit” recreational cross-country ski route.

Landscape

The chateau park in Jilemnice covers approximately 4 hectares and contains numerous valuable trees and shrubs.
