Slana: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Slaná lies in a valley surrounded by hilly terrain. Geologically, the area is characterised by Permo-Carboniferous rocks of the younger Palaeozoic containing melaphyre; in some places, Tertiary formations with basalt intrusions also occur. Cycle route No. 4175 runs through the village, connecting Slaná with the Český ráj and Krkonoše regions.

Landscape and Trails

The Hořenský stream crosses the municipality of Slaná from west to east. It rises near Tuháň, a district of Stružinec, is 2.73 km long and flows into the Oleška in the district of Bořkov.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Slaná to Lomnice nad Popelkou. A green-marked hiking trail connects the village with Jilemnice.

History and Architectural Heritage

Next to the primary school building in Slaná stands an iron cross cast in 1840, with a grey sandstone pedestal made by Jan Zeman from Žernov. House No. 43 in Slaná, which is listed as a historical monument, is a valuable cultural heritage site. There is a bell tower in the cemetery in Slaná.

The academic painter Vladimír Komárek was born in the district of Hořensko in Slaná. Well-preserved log houses Nos. 5, 25 and 45 can be found in Bořkov.

Crafts and Theatre

In the Slaná area, flax cultivation was once one of the few sources of income for the ancestors living in this poor region. Flax was processed at home; according to records in the municipal chronicle, the last hand weaver, Josef Ducháč from house No. 17, worked on a handloom until 1914.

The repertoire of the Tyl Slaná theatre ensemble consists primarily of comedies. The ensemble also stages performances by its own and visiting groups, social evenings and musical events.
