Studenec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Studenec and Zálesní Lhota are foothill villages on the slopes of Stráž, a 630-metre-high melaphyre hill in the foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains. Studenec is home to the neo-Romanesque Church of St John the Baptist, built between 1866 and 1868; next to it stands a pseudo-Renaissance château dating from 1883.

Culture and Townscape

Domestic textile production in the 19th century earned Studenec the nickname “Village of Weavers”. This includes the history of the Fejfar & Mládek weaving mill: founded in 1911, it developed into one of the most important textile companies in pre-war Czechoslovakia.

Traditional timber-framed houses have been preserved mainly in Dolení konec in Studenec.

Nature and Geology

On the school grounds in the centre of Studenec, there is a short but comprehensive educational trail with an arboretum. It introduces visitors to the local living and non-living nature. Studenecký lom quarry is an important geological site.

Events Throughout the Year

Studenec’s harvest festival, held in mid-September, includes the Posvícenský koláč cross-country race below Strážník. It has already been held almost fifty times and attracts hundreds of participants every year. Studenecké míle is an annual gathering of historic motor vehicles on the last Saturday in May; participants drive a route through the Podkrkonoší region and the Krkonoše Mountains.

The Studenec Volunteer Fire Brigade organises an annual firefighters’ ball. The pilgrimage in Studenec is celebrated at the end of June; footballers from the sports club traditionally put together the sports programme and an evening entertainment event.

Obecní polévka is a traditional local event where visitors could enjoy traditional municipal soup, Krkonošské sýkory and mulled wine, as well as other dishes, and buy local handicraft products. Běh Vítězství is a cross-country race in Studenec organised by Tělocvičná jednota Sokol Studenec.

Sports and Winter

In winter, a 1-kilometre prepared cross-country ski trail with evening lighting runs directly next to the Sokolovna in Studenec. Publicly accessible sports fields and sports facilities are located around the Sokolovna. TJ Sokol Studenec offers 50 beds in tourist accommodation.
