Zdonov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A hiking route through Zdoňov passes the Zdoňov menhirs in the Hrnčířské Valley, an art project dedicated to the animal world. Each stone is dedicated to a different animal and represents a different power or element.

Culture and history

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity and its cemetery complex are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It was first mentioned as a parish church in 1384. At the end of the 16th century, it was extensively remodelled in the Renaissance style, probably based on designs by the master builder Carlo Valmadi. There is also a restored pillory of Zdoňov by a bridge below the church.

At the northwestern edge of Zdoňov, a Baroque pilgrimage church dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands on a hill surrounded by a cemetery. The pilgrimage complex includes the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk.

Paths and landscape

The Kamenný kříž s druidským hájem above Zdoňov is a stone complex consisting of 13 stones; the tallest are 4 to 4.5 metres high. The adjacent Druid grove consists of 12 oak trees and 8 birch trees. A hike from Zdoňov leads through the Druidský háj to the ruins of the Church of the Virgin Mary on Kopeček. This church replaced a small wooden chapel in 1667 and was closed in 1786 during the Josephine reforms.

The Kamenný kříž s druidským hájem can be reached from Křížový vrch via the chapel and Svatý kopeček along a trail. Nearby is the Křížová cesta nature reserve, a rock city on Křížový vrch where protected birds, including peregrine falcons, breed. The Křížový vrch viewpoint is accessible year-round and lies outside the paid circuit through the Adršpašské skály.

For cyclists, the 25-kilometre Teplice nad Metují–Zdoňov/Loděnice–Mieroszów–Meziměstí–Vernéřovice–Teplice nad Metují cycling loop is documented as being of moderate difficulty. It leads from Teplice nad Metují along red cycle route 4036 to Zdoňov and then via route 4020 to Meziměstí.

Border and local life

The Zdoňov–Łączna border crossing can be used for visits to Poland. A route from Buková hora follows a cycle path to the border crossing and continues into the border village of Zdoňov, through the village centre to the church.

Biofarma Zdoňov organises agricultural weekends, work weeks and educational excursions for kindergartens. The Kovářova kobyla restaurant in Zdoňov serves seasonal dishes made from regional ingredients.
