Šonov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Šonov lies entirely within the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. A blue-marked hiking trail to Homole leads from Hvězda via Křinice and Šonov to Nowa Ruda. Homole, also known as Šonovská sopka, is located in the Javoří Mountains east of Šonov in the Czech Republic. At its summit is a ventarole with warm air escaping from it, an approximately 4 m deep rocky depression.

Nature and Trails

The geologically remarkable Kamenec site is located about 1.2 km northeast of Šonov, near the village centre. It comprises rocks, rock walls and outcrops of andesitoids (melaphyre).

The 46 km-long, moderately difficult to difficult cycle route “ze Šonova po Javořích horách přes Głuszycu a Osówku” begins at the intersection by the municipal office in Šonov and is intended for mountain bikes or trekking bikes.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary now stands on the site of the former wooden Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Šonov, which had been documented since 1354 and burned down in 1775. The Neo-Gothic chapel was built there in 1877. It is accessible from the outside daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; access to the interior is possible by prior telephone arrangement with the Roman Catholic parish of Broumov.

The Church of Saint Margaret stands alone on a hill to the west above Šonov and offers views of Broumov and the surrounding landscape. It is an example of High Baroque architecture, was built between 1727 and 1730, and is indirectly attributed to Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The floor plan consists of a passage oval with quadrilaterals bevelled at the ends.

The late Baroque vicarage in Šonov has a building history that began in 1782 and continues to the present day.
