Culture and History

In the center of Teplice nad Metují, the Ivanitská Hermitage comprises a pilgrimage church and a Garden of Paradise. It is considered a rarely preserved monument to the life of hermits in Bohemia; the church features remarkable Rococo frescoes.

The historic heritage also includes the Renaissance Upper Castle and the Baroque Church of St. Lawrence. The Upper Castle was built in 1599 by Václav Bohdanecký z Hodkova and now houses the town hall. St. Lawrence was built in 1724 by Jan Straka z Nedabylic and preserves original ceiling paintings and richly carved furnishings.

Activities

The Teplické skály form the larger part of the Adršpašsko-Teplické Rocks National Nature Reserve.

The Josef Vavroušek Educational Trail leads through the Teplické skály along a 6-kilometer blue-marked circular route with 15 stations. The ruins of Střmen Castle offer a viewpoint in the Teplické skály.

Cycle Route 4036 is 31 kilometers long and starts and ends in Teplice nad Metují. It has a medium difficulty level and is recommended for mountain bikes or trekking bikes.

The Ski Kamenec ski resort has two slopes, each 500 meters long, groomed daily with a snow groomer and equipped with artificial snowmaking. Ski Kamenec also offers a ski school with ski instructors available on request.

Events and Accessibility

Teplice nad Metují hosts the International Mountain Film Festival, a competition festival for professional and amateur films about mountaineering and other sports. Every year, the Redpoint Team organizes more than ten races, including mountain bike, running, duathlon, and roller-ski events. The Rallye Sudety is the Redpoint Team's best-known mountain bike marathon and was first held in 1995.
