In Nové Město nad Metují, the historic centre and the château are naturally integrated with one another.

Culture and History

Construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Nové Město nad Metují was completed in 1519. Most of its furnishings date from the 17th century; the organ was made in 1656 by Jiří Weindt from Křešov.

The northern side of Husovo náměstí was reconstructed between 1951 and 1954 in the Renaissance forms of the 1530s, with characteristic “swallowtail” gables. During this reconstruction, the remains of a water reservoir were uncovered near the monument to the Holy Trinity in 2009.

Nové Město nad Metují Château offers two sightseeing tours: “Zámecké interiéry” and “Od půdy po sklep”. The Nové Město nad Metují Town Museum presents exhibitions on the history, crafts and nature of the region. Its collection also includes a number of PRIM wristwatches, including the oldest, largest and smallest watches in the collection.

The Zázvorka Municipal Gallery presents changing exhibitions of painting, photography, woodcuts and sculpture throughout the year on two floors. In Peklo, the Bartoňova útulna was created by converting a mill into a restaurant for excursions; the conversion, designed by Dušan Jurkovič, was completed in 1912.

Trails and Nature

The Obůrka Klopotov educational trail provides information about the natural and historical features of the Klopotov Valley. It includes information panels, interactive elements for children and basic visitor facilities.

The Městský vycházkový okruh town trail begins near the bus station and follows the green-and-white markings of the local circular trail. It descends through deciduous woodland into the Metuje Valley. The deep valley of the Klopotovský and Bohdašínský streams connects Nové Město nad Metují and Slavoňov via a pleasant walking trail.

Dvořáčkova vyhlídka viewpoint offers views across the Metuje Valley to the château of Nové Město nad Metují.
