Nový Hrádek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nový Hrádek combines striking historic buildings with the viewpoint on Šibeník. This is particularly evident in the ruins of Frymburk Castle: they form a two-part castle complex on a high rocky spur encircled by the Olešenka near Nový Hrádek.

Culture and History

Frymburk Castle, also known as Frimburk, was used from the 14th to the 17th century. Its distinctive features include an irregularly shaped round tower approximately 18 metres wide, with masonry up to 4 metres thick.

Nový Hrádek’s square is home to the late Baroque Marian Column: the approximately 6-metre-high sandstone column supports a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1747 and was designated a protected cultural monument in May 1958. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul stands on the north-western side of the square. Its interior contains furnishings from several historical stylistic periods, from the early Baroque to the present day; the side altar of Saint Joseph dates from the late 17th century.

Views and Trails

Rozhledna na Šibeníku is accessible year-round from sunrise to sunset, and admission is free. The observation tower is 47 metres high, with its viewing platform at a height of 32 metres.

A car park is located at the Tourist Information Centre on Šibeník, 200 metres from the observation tower. There are also the Nový Hrádek-škola and Nový Hrádek-náměstí bus stops, as well as a marked footpath from Nový Hrádek’s square. The Stations of the Cross on Šibeník initially offer views of the Orlické Mountains and the Olešenka valley, and at the end of the trail, views of the Krkonoše Mountains.
