Vidochov is located 5 km northeast of Nová Paka on the road to Hostinné.

Nature and Trails

The area around Vidochov is crisscrossed by numerous hiking and cycling trails. The Kozinec observation tower was opened to the public in 2009. It can be reached from the ČD stop Nová Paka – město or from Horka u Staré Paky railway station via the green-marked hiking trail and a paved turnoff.

The mountains Maxinec (MLázovický chlum), Strážník, and Tábor are located in the vicinity of Vidochov. The mountain Přední Žalý lies in the wider regional surroundings of Vidochov.

The so-called Vidochovský lom quarry is a geological locality with occurrences of chalcedony, agates, and quartz varieties, including smoky quartz. Shafts and galleries of the “Marie Matky” mine were located on the northeastern edge of the Vidochov valley.

Churches and History

On the road from Vidochov to Stupná, the Church of the Guardian Angels stands on the left, a prominent building in the lower part of the municipality. On its northeastern side is a three-storey ashlar stone tower with a pyramid roof and triangular ventilation openings in the central section; at the top are a tower sphere and a Latin cross.

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was built in 1717–1719 by the Carthusians from Valdice; the master builder was Václav Heldt. Its complex comprises the church, a mortuary built into the enclosing wall opposite the entrance gate, and a central cross in the cemetery.

The Lázně Church is also located in the vicinity of Vidochov. The Spalona Strażnica ruins and the Valdštejn Church lie in the wider regional surroundings of Vidochov.
