Nová Paka combines nature-related themes with an impressive architectural and urban history. The Městské muzeum Nová Paka houses a collection of almost 4,000 petrological and mineralogical exhibits. The Klenotnice presents exhibitions on volcanism, geological development, gemstones, and spiritualism.
Culture
A historical highlight is the Suchardův dům, a building completed in 1896 in the Neo-Renaissance style. The house contains an exhibition on the work of Stanislav and Vojtěch Sucharda. The Paulaner monastery church of Nanebevzetí Panny Marie is also part of Nová Paka’s cultural character and is an important late Baroque landmark there. A rosary staircase dating from 1737 leads to this church.
On Masarykovo náměstí in Nová Paka, the parish church of sv. Mikuláše is the square’s defining building. Gernatův dům is a rare urban-type log house from the first half of the 18th century and a cultural monument. Today, the building is used as a café.
