Střevač lies between two elongated ridges; the northern ridge, covered with coniferous trees, is crisscrossed by hiking trails.
Culture and History
The village heritage zone of Štidla was designated by Decree No. 413/2004 Sb. of the Czech Ministry of Culture dated 24 June 2004 and has been in force since 1 January 2005. Střevač was elevated to the status of a městys again in 1896.
The Baroque granary on the southern edge of Střevač was built in 1690 from stone taken from the original fortress, which was demolished at that time, and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The village square in Štidla features a late Baroque statue of the Crucifixion dating from 1780; it is considered a cultural monument of regional importance. The Baroque column with the statue of the Immaculata in Střevač dates from 1754 and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The late Baroque Calvary ensemble in Střevač also dates from 1754. It is located opposite the municipal office and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
Nadslav is home to the single-nave Gothic Church of Saint Procopius, with a cemetery enclosed by a stone wall and a wooden bell tower from the 19th century; it has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964. Farmstead No. 8 in Štidla is a preserved rural agricultural complex dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, with its original architectural layout.
Nature and Landscape
Mordýř Pond and the adjacent wet meadows provide a habitat for fire-bellied toads and other amphibians. The Nadslav Nature Monument protects the habitat of the critically endangered fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).
The eastern and northern parts of the municipality of Střevač lie within the Český ráj UNESCO Geopark. Its boundary follows Class II and III roads that run through Střevač, Nadslav and Štidla. The Baroque-designed landscape of Mariánská zahrada extends across the eastern part of the administrative area of Střevač and includes the settlements of Střevač, Nadslav and Štidla.
